This is going to be the last fight of my life, so you can fucking bet I’m going out with a BANG. I hated leaving Jesika the way that I did. She wasn’t happy and had actually refused to come with me because of it. I wanted Jaxon to see his dad fight at least once. I know as a kid I would have thought it was fucking bad ass if my dad was in the ring battling out against another guy. Not like he needs any more reasons to think I’m the baddest dad around, but every bit helps.
The hype in the arena is addicting. It’s the part I will miss most. I definitely won’t miss the getting hit in the ring part. But the adrenaline that surrounds the crowd and the way your blood runs through your veins warming your body as you go in for battle and you’re put into survive mode, even though it isn’t a fucking Battle Royale or some Hunger Games shit. You still got to pull out all your best hands. Never miss a beat. Because once you do, your ass will be called the fuck out.
When asked what song I wanted to bounce out to I had no doubt in my mind what the perfect song would be. Most people choose some hard core ‘I’m gonna beat your ass’ rock song, and typically I would too, but seeing as though this is my last fight and I’m still ass hurt about getting it served to me last time I fought this joker, and I have some pride to claim back, I choose the most fitting song possible. Maybe it’s not the most fitting song and maybe I’m lame for picking it, but I blame that on being a 90’s kid. Those were the fucking years — when shit seemed simpler.
As soon as the beat started playing, the rush hit me full force and I had to hold myself from running down the aisle. I kept my face passive and my stride slow as I made my way down. I had people in all directions yelling.
“Beat his ass, Jake!”
“Triple Threat!”
God, how I hate that damn name. But I must admit it’s catchy as shit and blows Jake the Snake out of the universe. Yes, that actually was my wrestling nickname. Not by choice obviously. No one in their right mind would ever willingly pick that name to be called and cheered on by everyone. You want something that’s intimidating and yet captures you all in one. Triple Threat it is for me — wrestling, kickboxing, and jiu-jitsu are my three main attributes when it comes to fighting.
Doug has always been my number one fan, water boy, sweat wiper…anything and everything dealing with being in this ring and he’s on it. Except for tonight. Tonight he couldn’t make it. Some fucking business trip that came up last minute. Not sure what kind of business it is that he’s fully in and I’ve never questioned it…until I told Jes I’d quit fighting.
